In the morning, I took the shuttle bus provided by the hotel to Alishan National Forest Recreation Area. As Alishan's temperatures can be quite cool, it's advisable to dress warmly and be prepared for varying weather conditions. The hotel provided each of us with an umbrella in case of rain and to double as a handy hiking stick if we get tired from the walking. The driver facilitated the entrance fee of 300 TWD to the Alishan National Forest Recreation Area, ensuring a hassle-free start to the day.

Inside the park, there are multiple train routes that offers a convenient way to explore the area. The train tickets can be bought on-site at the Alishan Tourist Centre, where I purchased the ticket to Zhaoping Station (ę²¼å¹³ē«™).

After arriving at Zhaoping Station, I started my leisurely walk towards Sacred Tree Station (ē„žęœØē«™). This route is mostly downhill, so you won't feel too tired while walking, and there are rest stops selling food along the way The path is well-marked with landmarks and signboards to guide you. Once you reach Sacred Tree Station, you can purchase another train ticket to return to the original Alishan Station.

Hereā€™s the trail I have taken:

1. Zhaoping Park (ę²¼å¹³å…¬åœ’)

2. Sistersā€™ Pond (å§Šå¦¹ę½)

3. The Three Brothers (äø‰å…„弟)

4. Golden Pig Tree (é‡‘č±¬å ±å–œ)

5. Magnolia Garden (ęœØč˜åœ’)

While the magnolia has not yet bloomed, its anticipation adds to the beauty of the scene.

6. Shouzhen Temple (受镇宫)

There is a rest stop here selling food. I recommend trying the mala and doughnut!

7. Zhouzhi Bridge (čˆŸä¹‹ę©‹)

Spotted a beautiful hydrangea along the way.

8. King Cherry (ęرēŽ‹)

While the cherry blossoms are not currently in season, they are expected to start blooming in February.

9. Three Generations Trees (äø‰ä»£ęœØ)

10. Ciyun Temple (ꅈäŗ‘åÆŗ)

The landscape here is adorned with a multitude of beautiful maple trees.

Next to Ciyun Temple is a platform where seas of clouds can be seen.

11. Giant Trees Plank Trail

I also went to the more distant Giant Trees Trail, where there were fewer tourists. The trail was very quiet, and incredibly beautiful.

12. Alishan Sacred Tree (ē„žęœØ遗čæ¹)

The cypress trees create a breathtaking scene that seems almost surreal. Their branches filters the sunlight into a mesmerising dance of light and shadow. Walking among these ancient giants, one can't help but feel a sense of awe and wonder at the beauty and grandeur of nature.

Near the Alishan Station, there is a shopping area where you can purchase souvenirs. Here, I had the chance to purchase tea leaves as souvenirs and engage in a friendly chat with the shop owner, who kindly offered me a pot of tea, while I waited for the shuttle bus to pick me up at 4.30 pm. Be mindful not to stay in Alishan too late, as visibility can be reduced by evening fog.

At 5:30 pm, the road is enveloped in evening fog.

If you intend to watch the sunrise the very next day, donā€™t forget to purchase the train ticket from the Alishan Tourist Centre to Zhushan station before leaving! The staff will provide you with details and departure times. Otherwise, you may also purchase the ticket online.

The scenery in Alishan is truly beautiful, offering picturesque views at every turn. The weather in Alishan is cool, making it very comfortable to walk in the mountains. It offers a moment of respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. For those planning to visit Taiwan, Alishan is a must-visit destination, promising an unforgettable experience that lingers long after the journey ends.

Love,

Shu
