TAIWAN HIGH-SPEED RAIL TO CHIAYI
Embarking on a 2-hour journey aboard the Taiwan High-Speed Rail (HSR), I headed for Chiayi, the gateway to the stunning landscapes of Alishan. Known for its serene beauty, Alishan was my destination for the next few days.
The HSR ticket can be easily purchased at any Taiwan HSR station, convenience store or on the official HSR website. Once I arrived at Chiayi station, I opted for a cab to my accommodation for the next two nights: Hotel Indigo Alishan. The hotel is nestled halfway up Alishan. Due to the mountainous terrain, the cab fare to the hotel was a steep 2000 TWD. For a more budget-friendly option, travellers can consider taking the Taiwan Tourist Shuttle Bus (台湾好行). Simply transfer from Chiayi HSR station to Taiwan Tourist Shuttle Bus Line A, and alight at Longtouping (巃頭坪) station, where you'll see the hotel.
HOTEL INDIGO ALISHAN
Upon entering the lobby, you'll be greeted by a high ceiling space adorned with bamboo-shaped pendant lights, casting a mesmerising glow reminiscent of fireflies in a bamboo forest. Every guest can enjoy a welcome tea served in bamboo cups upon arrival. The hotel's design blended local elements, including the culture of the Tsou indigenous people and the natural environment of Alishan, allowing guests to experience the beauty of Alishan culture within the hotel.
Sadly, I did not take much photos of the hotel's interior.
The front desk décor, evocative of caves and forests, complemented the Alishan's ambiance, while the attentive staff ensured my stay was as enjoyable as possible. Upon checking-in, the hotel staff will inform guests of the sunrise timing the next day. The staff, aware of my intention to explore Alishan National Forest Recreational Area, also provided me with a detailed map and suggested a scenic trail to embark on the next day. The hotel also provides shuttle service to Alishan National Forest Recreational Area, which makes the visit much more convenient!
Check out the trail the hotel staff marked out for me!
Passing through the lobby to the hotel lift, you'll be greeted by a symphony of sounds - the rustle of trees, the chirps of Taiwan blue magpies, and the occasional whistle of a train.
Listen to the symphony of sounds in the sensory tunnel. Pardon the white noise in the background!
Each room's unique design, inspired by Tsou clothing, provided a charming contrast to typical hotel rooms. The room offers complimentary beverages, cookies and mochis, including a variety of choices such as tea, cola, and beer. The room’s balcony provides a direct view of the sunrise, but the view from the hotel’s top floor is definitely better.
Enjoying the beer on the balcony at night. Unfortunately, it was so foggy no stars could be seen.
The rooftop offers a heated infinity pool and a hot tub. It's perfect for relaxing, watching the sunrise, and stargazing. In the evening, you can enjoy a drink at the rooftop bar next to the pool.
Views from the rooftop.
The rooftop observation deck opens in the morning for guests to watch the sunrise. The hotel also offers hot chocolate and small pastries for guests to enjoy while waiting for the sunrise, ensuring they don't go hungry.

One of the downsides is that there are limited options for nearby attractions and dining. There is only a 7-11 nearby.
I opted to order dinner through the In-room dining service due to the absence of nearby dining options and the hotel restaurant being fully booked. The food is great by the way!
